Administrative Help volunteers fills in where is needed either at the Men's Center or Women's Center. This role helps assist with tasks such as filing, organizing, and data entry.

Spend time with children while their parent(s) attends classes at AGR. Knowing their child is safe and loved allows parents to focus on what they are learning so they can parent well! Childcare volunteers are needed on various days of the week for a duration of 1-3 hours.

Provide meals for clients attending our GED class! This is a great way to support AGR by planning a healthy meal, shopping for ingredients, cooking, and delivering the meal to AGR. All purchases will be reimbursed.

Provide meals for clients attending Single Mom's Support Group! This is a great way to support AGR by planning a healthy meal, shopping for ingredients, cooking, and delivering the meal to AGR. All purchases will be reimbursed.

Used for general volunteer hours within Ed Services. For example - a volunteer for ESL comes in for a meeting outside of when they have a scheduled shift. 

Volunteering as a Tutor can be a tremendous blessing for those participating in our weekly English as a Second Language (ESL) and Language Café programs. You will have the opportunity to assist women and men as they learn to speak English. Students spend a portion of class together learning a lesson, and then break into groups for additional practice with content. You do not have to speak any language besides English to volunteer in this role.

Help AGR staff plan, prepare, and execute events. This role involves a variety of tasks such as making phone calls, organizing supplies, and setting up and assisting at the event.

The Front Desk volunteer fills in at the reception desk at either the Women’s Center or the Men’s Center for as little as an hour or up to a full day. Thorough training is provided, and volunteers do not handle tasks or situations outside of their comfort zone. As of now, as are specifically in need of a volunteer on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30am-12pm at the Men's Center.

Facilitator would lead group of 8-12 women twice a month under the guidance of an AGR staff member. Duties typically include preparing and performing devotions, developing lessons, and leading group discussions. Training and curriculum that is specific to the group is provided to the volunteer. 

Did you know we have a hair salon in the Women’s Center building? Hair stylists volunteer their time to provide free haircuts to families in our programs. Moms or dads that attend any program at AGR can sign up to receive a haircut for themselves and/or their child(ren). Some kids get their very first haircut at Alpha! Hair stylists can volunteer for any length of time during AGR’s business hours.

Make our campus shine inside and out! Our buildings need consistent cleaning to help clients feel welcomed and safe. Pick one area, like kitchens, or do more! Prefer the outdoors? Keep our grounds beautiful by doing yard work as needed!

Serves as the “ambassador” spokesperson for site’s JFL efforts, calls on employers to introduce and share the mission of the JFL program.

To empower our male clients to engage in their God given gifts and talents in the work force, AGR needs an army of strategic volunteers who are diverse in age, vocation, and race, to walk alongside them. We are piloting JFL with our male clients hoping to expand to all clients in the future. 

 Recruits and screens unemployed and underemployed individuals who demonstrate a strong desire to improve their work situation.

Sort, organize, and maintain material donations which include infant and maternity supplies. You can also help fix and assemble large items or toys. This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups (Bible study, small group, sports team, etc.) and families! Volunteers must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult.

In addition to AGR's medical staff, the Medical Follow up Care volunteer will be tasked with following up with as many medical patients as possible!  This volunteer will touch base with patients to see how they are doing, answer any questions they may have, and encourage them to seek additional support through AGR's services.

Must be a RN for this role. AGR is flexible on volunteer day and length of time. 

Mentors/Coaches meet with clients on a regular basis to provide support, encouragement, and education through the Step Up Program. This program is designed around the client’s unique needs and areas of interest, and it allows mentors/coaches and clients to work together to create goals.

Parenting Class facilitators lead an 11 week class for moms and dads seeking to improve their parenting skills. This is a great form of support for both first-time and experienced parents!

Bring a group to pray for timely requests and needs of clients, volunteers, and staff. Please set up a time to do this with Lauren Herlein, Community Engagement Manager, lherlein@alphagrandrapids.org. 

Pregnancy Education Instructor is responsible for building relationships with clients, creating an atmosphere of education and inclusion, instructing clients in pregnancy through post-partum, and fostering spiritual growth. 

Help staff, volunteers, and clients feel extra safe by providing security on Tuesday evenings when AGR is open late. Security volunteers patrol the building and parking lot regularly from approximately 6-8:30pm. Volunteers serve 1-2 evenings per month.
